About
Joke Leys is a visual artist based in Borgerhout, Antwerp. She began creating work during the lockdown, initially making a piece for an empty frame at home. What started as a simple experiment grew into a steady practice, leading to her first commission and an expanding body of work.
Leys works mostly in painting, primarily in acrylic and watercolour. Her practice follows two parallel lines: one centred on her recurring figures, which reflect human themes such as connection and vulnerability; the other more intuitive and abstract, shaped by colour, composition and the physical qualities of materials.
Her work is process‑driven, tactile and minimal, balancing emotional presence with a clear visual language. Leys has presented her work in both solo and group exhibitions.
